“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2 English Standard Version).
At the end of a long race, runners often pick up the pace as the finish line is in sight. Maybe it’s the thought of the race being over or the encouragement of the crowd, but the final portion of the race is often where the runner is the fastest. The same can be said about how time flies as the school year begins to wind down. If one is not careful, the final days of the school year can easily vanish leaving those involved wondering how the time went so fast and wishing that they had taken the opportunity to enjoy the journey a bit more.
As the 2016-2017 school year comes to a close it is good to take time to reflect on a few things that the students of CLS have done this year. One area that is good to reflect upon is how the students gave throughout the year.
At Christ Lutheran School, in addition to instructing students on academics, a mission of the school is to instruct its students to be better neighbors. Often heard in our classrooms and halls is the phrase “love God and love neighbor”. To that end, a great portion of what we do is focused on serving our neighbor. Under the direction of our teachers and often guided by our chapel missions director Laura Hildebrand, the students of CLS serve their neighbor near and far through chapel missions.
Last week the students of CLS wrapped up their final chapel mission which was collecting money to help with juvenile diabetes research with JDRF. Our 3rd and 4th grade class held a lemonade stand and our 7th grade had a bake sale with all proceeds going to the JDRF chapel mission. Through the generosity of students, parents, and community members, students of CLS brought in over $800 in less than a month.
Below is a list of the chapel missions for the 2016-2017 year at CLS:
+Water for Africa ($635 to help GoFundMe campaign to meet its goal)
+Stuff A Truck Berrien County (Fed 70 plus families with food gathered)
+Book of Concord translation for the people of Vietnam (helped translate 13 books)
+Kids 2 Camp through Michigan District of the LCMS to help inner city kids attend Christian sports camps. ($270)
+The Price Family- ($260 to help a family that lost their home to a fire on Easter)
+Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation ($ 808 as of 5/26/17)
To God be the glory!
